On March 5, 2008 I received an e-mail from Willemjan Kieffer about an interesting ouija board experience:
My three friends and I (Katie, Frank, and Erik) were playing with the ouija board. We started out asking silly questions to some spirits. The we decided to ask more serious questions. At about 23:15 another spirit talked to us. We asked his name, and he said BJL. We asked if it was a shortened name or a nickname or something. He said yes, then we asked him what his full name was. The board spelled out: blak jack lie. We asked if he meant Black Jack Lee, and the board said yes. We asked how he had died. He said shipwek. We asked if he meant "shipwreck." The pointer moved to yes. We asked what happened. I was a pirate, the pointer spelled out. We said: tell us more! He told us that he was a pirate in the late 16th century in the Mediterranean. But he was taken down by the French Navy. After his story we asked him if he had anything to say. Beware the carnival he said. There was a carnival in town that weekend and we were supposed to go there. When we asked what he meant, he didn't answer. We decided to go to the canival nonetheless, but I did promise myself that I would be extra vigilant. Well, we went there that weekend and had a wonderful time. And nothing happened to us. I was relieved because I knew what could happen. But we were fine. But that Monday I read in the paper that there was a mechanical failure with the bumper cars. There was something wrong with the electicity and some kid got a heavy shock and needed to go to the hospital. We went on the bumper cars too...
