Robbers strike mausoleums at City Cemetery
March 13, 2009 article in the Cambridge Daily Jeffersonian:
Cambridge police are investigating apparent thefts from two mausoleums located in the Old City Cemetery during which the remains a woman were desecrated by the thieves the night of Wednesday March 11, 2009.
Police discovered two different mausoleums had been broken into.
Police are trying to determine what was stolen from the mausoleums.
One mausoleum was desecrated.
A burial container holding the remains of a female who died in 1885 was opened and contents scattered.
The vaults contain the remains of persons born as early as 1840.

That is the same cemetery I posted here about the head stones that were rolled down a cliff into a railroad cut. Those mausoleums are directly above where I'm betting those head stones still lay years later.

honestly, why do people do this?, what kind of thrill do they get from it?

does anybody know if someone died of a disease (such as polio), if there's a slim chance they could catch it from opening the grave?

not that I'm hoping someone gets a horrible disease from this, but it's certainly a concern. You never know. I'm sure there's a chance of mold, or other microscopic organisms wreaking havoc on one's immune system.

I would bet a paycheck the goons that did this were either drunk, or high, or both. That cemetery is an "I have so many DUI's I can never get my license back" super highway.

The houses these goons can afford are on one side, and all the cheap booze/drug dealers are on the other.

There's been talk of putting a tall fence around this cemetery to keep the losers out, let's hope.
