The Fayette County Courthouse is located off the National Road, US 40, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.

The Fayette County Courthouse is supposedly haunted. Legend has it that they used to hang people from the balcony on the Courthouse's clocktower. Supposedly the last person who was hanged there claimed to be innocent, and he put a curse on the town before he died. His curse was that none of the four clocks on the tower would ever show the same time.

In July 2004 I received an e-mail from Jessica, a fifteen-year old website visitor from Uniontown, who told me about a different version of the haunting story:

I just wanted to add a little bit more to the legend of the courthouse in Uniontown. You're right about the last man being innocent and saying a curse, but it wasn't on the town...it was on the courthouse. They asked him what his last words were 5 minutes early. And since they didn't give him his last 5 minutes of life, it was said that that clock on the tower would always be 5 minutes slow. There have been many attempts to fix the clock, but no matter what anybody does the clock has always been 5 minutes slow just like the man said.

I also received an e-mail from another website visitor, Scott, in October 2008:

I used to live about a block down the road from the courthouse. One of my windows actually faced the courthouse, and there were quite a few times that I would see strange lights in the clock tower. This would happen at night time, approximately 1:30-2:00 AM. I went down there quite a few times at the time of the lights, and I could see that they were coming from the windows. Mostly from the slat windows underneath the clock.
