The Salem Jail is located off Brown Street in Salem, Massachusetts.
Construction of the Salem Jail began in 1811. The original building was enlarged in 1884-1885, and it was used as a prison until it closed in 1991. Today it stands abandoned. Over the years many ghost stories have been told about it. Supposedly the prisoners who died there still roam the halls at night. It is rumored to be one of the most haunted places in Salem.
