The abandoned Springfield Metallic Casket Company is located in Springfield, Ohio (Clark County).
The Springfield Metallic Casket Company was established in 1884. It was one of the largest producers of burial vaults and metal caskets in the country, and legend has it that several caskets for well known people were made at this factory, including those of Al Capone, President John F. Kennedy, and Buffalo Bill Cody. The factory closed on November 30, 1974.
The photos on this page are from May 2010, and are from only one of the buildings occupied by this company. The building in these photos was used to house the large drawing presses and dies. I was able to legally visit as part of Preservation Ohio's Forbidden City tour.
