On February 10, 2005 I received an e-mail from Mae Alden about a strange thing that happens with the planchette every time she touches an ouija board:


"In 1997 about a year after I became interested in Wicca, my sister, myself and some friends decided to try out a ouija board. For about the first 15 minutes it worked fine for my sister and one of our friends. Then my sister and I started doing it and at first it seemed okay, then the more questions we asked the weird the answers became (it was 6 years ago so I don't really remember the questions or answers). Then the pointer started moving back and forth across the board not pointing at anything besides a stray letter here and there. I got freaked out so I stopped and someone else took my place the board stopped working and the pointer wouldn't move. Someone suggested that I get back on, so I did. And the pointer started acting crazy again, until it shot off the board and hit the wall. Needless to say we got rid of the board fast. But ever since that night every time I touch a board it does the same thing. No matter where I am or whose board I use the pointer goes crazy. I haven't used a board in about 3 years and I don't intend to do it again."
