Contacting Gilbert

October 1, 2009

On October 1, 2009 I received an e-mail from Jesse S. about an interesting ouija board experience:

Hi, my name is Jesse. I am 16 years old. A couple of weeks ago, I was over at my grandparents' house. My cousin (Chelsie), who has practically lived with them all her life, had one of our friends (Monica) over to spend the night. I would be spending the night as well. Monica and I, who were around the same age, went way back to the 1st grade when we first met each other. Anyway, we were kinda bored. Then an idea came to mind. Why not make an ouija board, and use it? We got some paper and taped it over a few sheets of cardboard. We used a permanent marker and drew out the entire alphabet, the numbers 0-9, and the words: yes, no, and goodbye. For decorations, we drew the sun and the moon and stars. For a planchette, we used a small hand bracelet that Chelsie wore as a baby.

After our grandparents went to bed, we decided to light two white candles, and placed them on the kitchen table. We also all turned off our cell phones. I had read somewhere that there should be no turned-on electrical devices present, because the only energy in the room should be that which is exchanged between you and the board. At first, Chelsie and Monica wanted to play by themselves. But I had read several places that you need at least 1 male and 1 female...so I played as well. We soon got the board out and put it on the table. At around 2:00 AM we began.
Me: Is anyone there?

Monica began to giggle. Chelsie got a little upset and told her she had to take it seriously.

Chelsie: Is there a spirit in the room? Is someone there?

The flames on the candles began to wiggle furiously, and a cold feeling came upon our bodies.

Me: Who's there?
Board: G-I-L-B-E-R-T

Chelsie: Gilbert? Your name's Gilbert?
Board: Yes

Me: How old are you, Gilbert?
Board: 7-2

Me: You're 72 years old?
Board: Yes

Monica: Tell us how you died.
Board: S-U-I-C-I-D-E

Chelsie: You killed yourself?
Board: Yes

Me: What year did you die?
Board: 1-7-4-2

Monica: How did you kill yourself?
Board: H-A-N-G-I-N-G

Me: You hung yourself?
Board: Yes

Me: Why did you kill yourself?
Board: B-A-D L-I-F-E

Chelsie: You had a bad life?
Board: Yes

Monica: Why?
Board: W-I-T-C-H-C-R-T

Monica: Did you mean "Witchcraft?"
Board: Yes

Me: You practiced witchcraft?
Board: Yes

Chelsie: Gilbert, are you a good spirit?
Me: Chelsie, I thought we read to never ask it that kind of question!
Board: No

Monica: Are you evil?
Me: Both of you stop it!
Board: Yes

Just then, one of the candles blew out by itself. And the planchette moved furiously on the board. This was a sign that he was angry!

Me: Gilbert, are you in this house?
Board: Yes

Chelsie: Where at in this house?
Board: D-I-N-I-N-G

Chelsie: The dining room? The kitchen?
Board: Yes

Chelsie's dog, Tabbi, began to bark furiously and stare at the refrigerator. Her hair on her back was standing straight up.

Me, Monica, and Chelise (in unison): GOODBYE!

Afterwards, I chewed the both of them out! If only they had never asked him those questions... Well, then just maybe, he wouldn't have got so pissed off and scared the shit out of us! LOL
