Grave Creek Mound is located at 801 Jefferson Avenue in Moundsville, West Virginia. It is directly across the street from the former West Virginia State Penitentiary.

The Grave Creek Mound was built by the Adena people over 2,000 years ago. It is one of the largest conical Adena Burial 1838 it was measured at 69 feet tall and 295 feet wide. Over 60,000 tons of earth had to be moved to create the mound, and since the Adena did not have machinery to use this was all done by hand. It probably took more than 100 years to construct the mound.
