Gnadenhutten Cemetery is located on Cherry Street in Gnadenhutten, Ohio (Clay Township, Tuscarawas County). The coordinates are 40° 21' 17.49" N, 81° 26' 7.75" W.
Gnadenhutten Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Ohio, and it's still active. The oldest gravestone in the state is located here; it belongs to Joshua, a Mohican Indian Elder who died in 1775. The remnants of his original gravestone are encased in acrylic within the new marker. The cemetery is in very good shape, and it's going to be in even better condition thanks to Tina and Don Mathias. They're currently repairing some of the old gravestones. They have recently unearthed many that had sunken into the ground, and they'll be resetting them soon. They are doing a TERRIFIC job!
A huge "thank you" to Greg Wells for helping me find this cemetery! I really appreciate all the help he has given me with finding cemeteries around Tuscarawas County!
