On February 1, 2008 I received an e-mail from Emma about an interesting ouija board experience:
I had just bought a ouija board, and it arrived when my friend Tab was at my house. We decided to play it with her mother, who we will call "Edie." I'm Emma.
We contacted a spirit named "Xen," who died of the bubonic plague in 1483. He was eighteen. We chatted with him amiably for a while, then went to bed. The next day, Edie was up in her room when we decided to try to talk to Xen again. The same thing happened, until we started joking about it:
Emma: You're moving it, aren't you?
Tab: No I'm not, I swear!
Emma: Well, the dog's getting scared, Xen could be a demon for all we know.
Tab: Yes, well, he said he wasn't.
Emma: They can lie.
[We talk to Xen a bit, and he complains of "butt pains." It becomes increasingly evident that he is not in a good mood.]
Then suddenly, the flame of one of the candles roared up to at least half a foot, and a huge chip of the candle exploded off of it, up into the air. Tab was quite spooked, but I enjoyed it and now believe in spirits when I was a skeptic before.
If you have any comments for Emma, please send me an e-mail and I'll forward them on to her.
