On November 11, 2007 I received an e-mail from Chris Powers about an interesting ouija board experience:
Over 10 years ago, two of my friends and I were gaining interest in the occult. We began discussing Ouija boards and sharing some stories that some mutual friends of ours had while using one. Neither my two friends nor I had ever used a board though, and we decided to look for one to no avail. I had heard that there is much more potency in a homemade Ouija board than in the popular store bought version, so I decided to make one. I found a nice piece of wood and sanded it down. Then I drew a sun and moon in the top corners, put a YES and NO, 0 thru 9 digits, and all of the letters of the alphabet. I made an oracle out of a triangular piece of cardboard with a hole cut from the center. My friends and I all put 2 fingers on the oracle, after dimming the lights and lighting some candles. We made some clockwise circles with the oracle and asked, "Is there anyone there?" The oracle began spelling out some jibberish, so we asked again, only to get a reply with more random letters and numbers. So I asked the board if I made a mistake while creating the board. Immediately the oracle went to the sun (on the top right), and then to the moon (top left), and slowly spelled out "REVERSE," then went directly to "GOODBYE." Discouraged, we asked a few more questions only to get more nonsense as the reply. We gave up and put the board and oracle away.
The next night I found myself in a popular department store and found a Ouija board. To my astonishment, I had put the sun and moon in reversed positions on my homemade board. When I got home I called my friends and told them about my discovery. They freaked out and swore to never play it again unless I made a new one or fixed the one I had. I did neither, but decided to open my next ouija board session with Counter-Clockwise circles with the Oracle. The result was quite amazing. Every time I used the board, all of the replies were REVERSED! Words were spelled backwards, and hello became goodbye. It was pretty creepy, but one thing is for sure...it made a beilever out of me. I still have that homemade board, but haven't used it in years because I lost the oracle. Creepy stuff indeed!
