Saying Goodbye

April 20, 2008

On April 20, 2008 I received an e-mail from Charlotte about an interesting ouija board experience:

I thought my dead grandpa wanted me to contact him, as my grandma was in the last days of her life. Well, my grandma died three days after I sent that email to you, and yes I believe I did contact my grandpa.

Having never done it before, I was very nervous about using the board. I made one out of a piece of paper and a glass. I did it in broad daylight so I wouldn't get scared. My mom and my brother were at the hospital (my dad doesn't live with us). So I started.

Me: Hello, is there anyone here with me?
Board: Yes

Me: (already shaking) Are you my grandpa?
Board: Yes

Me: Please don't be offended, but I was told that spirits can be mischievous, so I need to make sure it's you.
Board: Ok, Chuck

("Chuck" is what my grandpa used to call me, so I was pretty convinced already! I asked a couple of personal questions that only me and him would have known. Suddenly I burst into hysterics)

Me: Why did you leave me, Gramps?!
Board: Emphysema Chuck, no choice

(I take my hand off and cry for a bit, then put it back on glass)

Me: Is Nan gonna leave soon?
Board: Yes

Me: I don't want her to go.
Board: She with me

Me: What did you want to tell me?
Board: N8an wont want u to cry. (my gran was in a coma at time of death, so she couldn't speak directly to me)

Me: (sob)
Board: I don't want u 2 cry either

Me: I heaven nice?
Board: the best Chuck.

Me: Is she in any pain?
Board: No

Me: Can she still hear me when I sit next to her?
Board: hear everything u say. Yes

Board: btw. Ur mum would throw2 a fit if she knew what you were doing now

(I laugh)
Board: thats better a smile

Me: How long do I have to say goodbye?
Board: 3

Me: Days?
Board: Yes

Me: I don't know what to say.
Board: love

Me: Tell her I love her?
Board: Yes. Miss her

Me: (crying again) I miss you too.
Board: Glad we talk again.

Me: Me too, Gramps.
Board: Goodbye

So I end the session and tell my mom to come and pick me up immediately. I spent the next three days at her side saying my goodbyes. On the third night, my mom sent me home for a while to rest. As I got home, I felt the urge to call my brother back at the hospital, and apparently just as his phone was ringing, she drew her last breath. And just as my grandpa had promised, she passed away on the third day at 11:34 PM. I will not use the ouija board again because I said my goodbyes when she was alive and apparently hearing me. Rest in peace, Marjorie Valentine Rogers and Clifford Lionel Brown.
