Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 is located on Washington Avenue in the Garden District of New Orleans, Louisiana (Orleans Parish). The coordinates are 29° 55' 43" N, 90° 05' 07" W.

I visited this cemetery as part of the Gray Line Garden District tour. Like most cemeteries in New Orleans, the vast majority of the graves in Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 are above ground tombs or vaults in the wall surrounding the cemetery.

Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 was established in 1833 by the city of Lafayette...Lafayette was an American city which was later incorporated into the current city of New Orleans (not to be confused with the town of Lafayette that is located 100 miles west of New Orleans). The cemetery was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, and in 1996 it was placed on the World Monuments Fund Watch List. The cemetery is maintained by Save Our Cemeteries Inc.

Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 has been seen in many movies, including Anne Rice's Interview With A Vampire. The cemetery is also featured in many of Anne Rice's books. It's a beautiful cemetery, and it's definitely worth visiting!
